Melonbooks Not Loading Outside Japan? What the Notice Says and How to Buy the Right Item
Melonbooks access restricted abroad? Read the official notice, identify the problem, and compare exact-edition buying routes.
Information checked 2026-10-28
Melonbooks says it is restricting access from overseas for security reasons. If the store no longer opens for you, that notice is the first place to check. It does not tell you whether a particular item is sold out, whether your account can complete checkout, or whether another seller has the same edition. Start with the problem you can actually verify, then choose a buying route for the exact item you want.
What does the Melonbooks notice say?
In its October 15, 2026 notice, Melonbooks says it is restricting overseas access because of internet security concerns. It invites customers who want to use its online store to contact its listed support address so it can consider cases individually. The notice does not give a reopening date or promise that every request will be approved.
A page that fails to load from your location is therefore consistent with the announced restriction, but the error screen alone cannot establish why that particular request failed. If you can reach the store but cannot order, check the account and delivery conditions separately. Melonbooks' international FAQ says it does not ship overseas directly and points readers to external services. Access to the site and delivery to your country are two different checks.

| What you see | What it tells you | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| The store or many pages do not open | Check the official overseas access notice; a page error does not prove an item is unavailable. | Use the contact route in the official notice if you need store access. Search another seller for the exact item in parallel. |
| The store opens, but one listing is missing or says sold out | This is an item-level question, not proof of a general access block. | Confirm the original title, creator, edition and retailer product number before comparing listings elsewhere. |
| You can view the item but cannot complete checkout | Account, payment and delivery requirements may be involved. | Review the Melonbooks FAQ and the terms of any external purchasing service. |
| You want a Melonbooks-only bonus | The same book at another retailer may be a different offer. | Verify the bonus, edition and purchase conditions on the original offer, then ask a purchasing service whether it can obtain that exact offer. |
How can you ask Melonbooks about access?
Use the contact address in the official access notice, rather than an address copied from an older guide. Briefly describe your country or region, when the problem began, the page or step you cannot reach, and the error you see. Do not send a password or payment-card details. Melonbooks says it will consider requests individually; the notice does not establish a response time or guaranteed access.
What are the buying routes while access is restricted?
If the exact item is already listed by an international retailer, compare its catalog number, edition and included items with the offer you wanted. CDJapan's official guide distinguishes its ordinary catalog items from purchases made through its proxy service. A regular listing can be simpler to evaluate, but it is not automatically the same as a Melonbooks-exclusive bundle. You can browse JAPALOOT's product listings for examples of identified CDJapan items, then follow the matching retailer listing to check its current conditions. JAPALOOT may earn a commission if you use a CDJapan purchase link on one of those product pages; see the site's Links & Affiliate Disclosure.
If the exact shop offer is not listed, a proxy request is a separate possibility. CDJapan's request guide explains how to submit a Japanese seller's purchase URL. CDJapan then checks availability and price before listing an eligible item for payment. It says some requests may be declined. Its proxy guide invites detailed requests about shop-exclusive bonuses, but that invitation is not confirmation it can obtain a particular bonus. Include the original offer URL and state precisely which edition and bonus you need.
If another seller has a similar title, compare the actual item rather than the translated title alone. A regular manga volume, a special edition, and a retailer bonus can be three different offers. Our guide to buying Japanese books and character goods from abroad covers the broader checks for item identity, delivery costs and order terms.
Example: two listings for Whisper Me a Love Song volume 13
CDJapan has separate listings for the regular edition (NEOBK-3256629; ISBN 9784825102033) and the special edition (NEOBK-3257253; ISBN 9784825102040). Compare the matching regular-edition page on JAPALOOT and special-edition page on JAPALOOT. These JAPALOOT pages contain CDJapan affiliate purchase links; we may earn a commission if you buy through them. The listings were checked on October 28, 2026. Their separate edition names and ISBNs do not establish that either includes a bonus offered by a different shop. If a shop-exclusive bonus matters to you, obtain confirmation for the exact offer before ordering either edition. Check current preorder status and contents directly on the retailer page; the listings and availability can change.
What should you confirm before paying?
- Identity: Original-language title, creator, product number, ISBN where applicable, edition and any explicitly included bonus.
- Route: Whether this is a regular retailer listing or a proxy purchase that still needs a request and acceptance.
- Destination and full amount: The available delivery method for your country, item price, service fees, shipping and any import charges that may be payable separately.
- Order terms: The current preorder, cancellation and return conditions for the selected seller or service.
When the exact edition or a shop bonus cannot be confirmed, keep looking or ask the seller before paying. The access notice explains why overseas visitors may have trouble opening Melonbooks; it does not turn a similar listing into the item you intended to buy.
